Welcome to The Salty Plum.

I am an introvert; I lean to the quiet side. What I love about jewellery is how it makes a statement without saying a word. The items we choose to adorn ourselves with say so much about who we are and how we are feeling. I love a bold statement piece, but sometimes I’m even more charmed when someone notices the detail of a subtle pendant or earring.

I am lucky to live on Vancouver Island on the beautiful West Coast of Canada and my family roots are in Newfoundland on the East Coast, 7,000 km away. It’s a big country and I feel as though I have one foot in each ocean! The sights, sounds, and smells of the coasts inspire me.

What the heck is a salty plum?

The Salty Plum Jewellery Co. is named for my beloved dog, Ume (oo-may). She was named for umeboshi, a little Japanese pickled plum that is extremely sour, salty and delicious. Ume is a mastiff cross and a huge scaredy cat. She can be a little salty until you get to know her, but she’s a sweetheart at her core. 

Like giant dogs and grouchy jewellery makers, umeboshi can be an acquired taste, but I think all three (me, my dog, and pickled plums) are worth getting to know!
